The Handcar Regatta invites Builders, Tinkerers and Artists to create and then race a Human Powered Rail Bound Vehicle for the adoring public.

The Handcar Regatta brings Art and Science out of the galleries, studios, and smokey laboratories, out among the People, where everyone can enjoy it and participate!

The Handcar Regatta will delight the senses with Melodious Music, Daring Diversions, Rollicking Games, Delectable Comestibles, and all manner of Adventurous Entertainments!

The stages will be live and in effect starting on Friday from 3pm till midnight, and from around 10am to midnight on Saturday and Sunday. Three whole days! After midnight expect special surprises, acoustic jam sessions and other fun stuff to carry the festival through the night. And there’s no need to dash out on Monday. The gates close Tuesday at noon, so you’re free to stick around ’til then and enjoy the forest!

The gate schedule is as follows:

Thursday May 22 - Gate opens at 4pm and closes at 4am

Friday May 23 - Gate opens at 7am and closes at 2am

Saturday May 24 - Gate opens at 7am and closes at 2am

Sunday May 25 - Gate opens at 7am and closes at 8pm

Monday May 26 - No Entry.

Upon entry, all guests will be required to register and receive a wristband, which must be worn AT ALL TIMES throughout the duration of the event.

In and outs are strongly discouraged, except in the case of emergency. You don’t want to miss anything anyways, right?

Oh look, another regional burn: Kiwiburn. I wonder what a burn with sheep would be like…?

Kiwiburn is New Zealand’s annual regional Burning Man event. Kiwiburn will be held at Whakamaru Domain, Mangakino from 10AM Friday, February 1st to 10AM Monday February 4th, 2008. The theme will be CombustInUnity.

Wednesday 30 Jan: Set up and registered theme camp, art, and volunteer arrival
Thursday 31 Jan: Set up and registered theme camp, art, and volunteer arrival
Friday 1 Feb: Kiwiburn opens 10 AM
Saturday 2 Feb: Kiwiburn
Sunday 3 Feb: Burn Night
Monday 4 Feb: Kiwiburn ends 10 AM
Tuesday 5 Feb: Final clean up day
Wednesday 6 Feb: Waitangi Day
Thursday 7 Feb: School Term Begins

Kiwiburn is a collective experience. Everybody contributes, everybody pays. As there are no paid performers at the event, there are no spectators and what is shared are the passions and dreams of those who gift them. You cannot “attend” Kiwiburn, but you can be a part of it.

Peruvian Earthquake Disaster Program Fundraising Event

On Sunday, Dec. 9 Burners without Boarders presents a fundraising event at Bar of America in Truckee. This will be a gratifying way to enjoy great food, entertainment and great company; featuring a buffet dinner provided by Bar of America and live music provided by Paesano Productions with Frame of Mind and Truckee Tribe.

Doors will open at 6 p.m., dinner will be served from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with music and bar service throughout the night.

Tickets can be purchased with a $25 donation. All proceeds will go directly to the reconstruction and will focus on repairing and restoring the disabled community networks in Peru.

What can you do to help?
In addition to the $25 door price of the Dec. 9 fundraiser at Bar of America, Burners without Boarders are approaching local businesses to solicit their support of this program.

The following are ideas of ways to support BWB:

• Becoming a volunteer —centered out of Pisco, Peru
