“Dust and Illusions” Documentary Trailer

By stache at 10:12 am on Thursday, June 26, 2008

This via Laughing Squid concerning an upcoming doc centered around the history of Burning Man and the question of the effects of mainstream success: Dust And Illusions.

Once a year, on a vast Nevada lake bed surrounded by mountains, the Burning Man festival brings together tens of thousands of people who are attracted by the festival’s promise of seven days of “decommodification,” “community,” “artwork,” and “revelry.” But increasingly, many question whether Burning Man’s mainstream appeal threatens—or even upends—the festival’s utopian vision. Through a series of in-depth interviews of the festival’s founders, organizers, and participants, DUST AND ILLUSIONS traces the festival’s history, while examining whether the festival is a victim of its own success.

Ice-Flo Art Car Caught on Video

By stache at 6:36 pm on Tuesday, March 4, 2008

YouTube glimpse of video with Ice-Flo art carSome dome-suckers from HouseMusicTV at Burning Man 2007 caught our “Ice-Flo” art car on tape.

It’s ever so short and more of an accident, but… there it is. See our rig at about 3:35 into the video.

The host says pointing, “Lookit this over here: this whole, like, iceberg… That’s actually a vehicle, a ‘Mutant Vehicle’.”

Alright, now I know it all actually happened. It wasn’t just a horribly wonderful dream after all.

Burning Man Festival Doc on Joost

By stache at 9:49 am on Tuesday, July 24, 2007

Joost (from the Skype folks) is a new and interesting arrival on the Web TV scene, combining high-quality content and intelligent interactive features. The software is maturing through its Beta stages and programs are starting to appear on the network. The Burning Man Festival documentary is now available for viewing.

Alas, someone please tell me how it’s working out as my machine isn’t fancy enough to run Joost (requires Intel Macs or a fast Windows box).
